After you have gathered all those things listed above, you can now start your project by following the procedure below.
Step #1. Choosing the right hardware
If you chose to use separate rods for your curtain and valance, you should keep in mind that the brackets to be mounted at the wall of the two rods will vary.
The curtain rod brackets must be one-half shorter than the length of valance rod brackets.
Let’s say; for example, the curtain brackets are 3 inches long; then the valance brackets must be 6 inches long.
Step #2. Installing curtain brackets
Get your tape measure and pencil, then mark the spot where you will mount the first bracket.
If you intend to install longer curtains, you should place the rod high above your window.
Mark the first curtain bracket placement using your pencil and do the same thing for the 2nd curtain bracket.
After you marked them, check whether they are aligned using a level.
If so, drill them into the wall.
Step #3. Installing valance brackets
Also, measure the placement of your valance brackets. It must be a bit higher than the curtain.
Then, mark it as well.
Ensure that they aligned before drilling them with screws.
Step #4. Hanging the curtain
Perhaps, you will be installing a tab-top curtain; make sure to slide the curtain rod through each tab and then hang it onto the brackets.
If you use other curtain hardware, such as a curtain ring, you must attach it to the curtain first before mounting it to the rod.
After that, you can then hang the curtain rod onto the bracket.
Step #5. Hanging the valance
Slide the rod onto the valance.
But you might as well use some curtain hardware in attaching the valance onto the rod.
Whichever method you choose, you should attach the rod onto the bracket after.
Then, adjust your valance to ensure that the fabric evenly spread out.
